Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration

GVTC is a mechanism established by the three protected area institutions for the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda to coordinate the sustainable conservation of the transboundary protected area network in the three countries.

Rwanda Development Board/ Tourism and Conservation

The mandate of the Tourism and Conservation Department of RDB is to conserve the rich biodiversity of the Protected Areas and to develop sustainable tourism in collaboration with stakeholders for the benefit of all the Rwandan People.

Uganda Wildlife Authority

The Uganda Wildlife Authority is in charge of management of 10 national parks, 12 wildlife reserves, 14 wildlife sanctuaries and provides guidance for five community wildlife areas.

National Land Centre, Ministry of Environment and Lands, Rwanda

The National National Land Center/Office of the Registrar of Lands Titles — Ministry of Natural Resources, is the statutory body responsible for land administration in the country. EEEGL partners NLC to undertake work on land tenure regularization, public awarness and capacity building near the Volcanoes National Park.

Rwanda Environment Management Authority

REMA is the governing body in charge of environmental and natural resource management throughout Rwanda. The EEEGL Project also partners with the Protected Areas Biodiversity Project funded by UNDP/GEF, which is under the REMA umbrella.

Karisoke Research Center

The Karisoke Research Center was founded by Dian Fossey over 40 years ago. The Center, part of Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International carries out research on the critically endangered mountain gorilla.

Institute of Tropical Forest Conservation

The Institute of Tropical Forest Conservation (ITFC) is located in Ruhija, on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Established in 1991 ITFC is a conservation-oriented research institute of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). It is located on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (BINP or ‘Bwindi’ for short), a World Heritage site in South West Uganda.

Uganda Functional Literacy Resource Centre

Uganda Functional Literacy Resource Centre (UFLRC) has worked with EEEGL to support community selected Batwa Village Based Trainers to work with their respective communities/villages to develop and implement village action plans.

Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) in Rwanda

SNV is a non-profit, international development organisation, established in the Netherlands in 1965. Currently, SNV Rwanda has about 75 clients spread over the six main sectors and value chains.

Burera District, Rwanda

Burera District is one of the five Districts of the Northern Province in the Republic of Rwanda and borders Volcanoes National Park. The District contains 571 villages with about 339,000 people.

Nyabihu District, Rwanda

Nyabihu District is in the Western Province in the Republic of Rwanda and borders Volcanoes National Park. This District contains 473 villages and approximately 300,000 people with a population density of around 558 people per square kilometer.

Musanze District, Rwanda

Musanze District is one of five Districts of the Northern Province in the Republic of Rwanda and borders Volcanoes National Park. The District contains Musanze town, the commercial center of the Northern Province.

Rubavu District, Rwanda

Rubavu District is in the Western Province in the Republic of Rwanda and borders Volcanoes National Park. Rubavu District contains the town of Gisenyi and borders Lake Kivu and the DRC town of Goma.

Kanungu District, Uganda

Kanungu District is a district in southwestern Uganda which borders the Democratic Republic of Congo. Kanungu District contains Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Kabale District, Uganda

Kabale District is a district in southwestern Uganda named after its major town, Kabale. The population density for the district in 2009 was 318 people per square kilometer.

Kisoro District, Uganda

Kisoro District is a district in southwestern Uganda and borders both Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Population of the District is approximately 273,700. Kisoro District borders Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

LandNet, Rwanda Chapter

LandNet is an Africa Regional Network on land that brings together African countries on issues involving land. Its mission is to contribute to equitable and sustainable land reform through inclusive actions and processes.

Kachwekano Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute (KARZARDI)

KARZARDI is a public agricultural research institute, under the policy guidance of the National Agricultural Research Organisation for the purpose of providing agricultural research services. EEEGL has partnered KARZARDI  to provide improved seed potato varieties and extension services to potato farmers in Uganda.

Syndicat Imbaraga

Formed in 1992, the Imbaraga Federation is an organization of farmers and livestock producers. As a Federation, IMBARAGA is an umbrella organization that groups together trade unions working in agriculture or livestock, whose members are either individual farmers, ranchers and the collective agricultural workforce.

REDO is a national community development organization in Rwanda.

Uganda National Seed Potato Producers Association (UNSPPA)

UNSPPA is an association of farmers who produce seed potatoes. EEEGL has partnered UNSPPA to strengthen the capacity of the organization to service its members and market.

URP is a local NGO based in Kissoro and active in natural resources management and livelihoods promotion. EEEGL has partnered URP to support communities around the parks to undertake a process of grassroots planning and monitoring of local development.
